Lugana was already known at the time of ancient Rome, so much so that the poet Catullus sang its praises, drinking it abundantly during his stays in his paternal villa in Sirmione. The conferment of the DOC dates back to 1967: it was the first DOC in Lombardy and among the first in Italy. The late master Luigi Veronelli wrote: “Drink your Lugana young, very young and you will enjoy its freshness. Drink it for two or three years and you will enjoy its completeness. Drink it ten years, you will be amazed by the composed authoritativeness ". And in fact Lugana - which takes its name from the ancient toponym of the area, that is Lucana, a term that could derive from the Latin lucus, bosco - is like this: simple in its basic version, structured and complex as the years go by.
