Cabernet Sauvignon, Trefethen Family Vineyards 2018

Trefethen Estate

Visiting a steakhouse in Vegas, only three wines we like to consider and a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is one, what perfect way to compliment a filet mignon or T-bone. This is a big wine and we love it.

Production area
Planted in gravelly soils in the northwestern quadrant of the stunning Trefethen estate vineyards, located in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. These well-drained soils combined with limited yields produce Cabernet Sauvignon fruit with bright and complex flavours.

Varieties
87% Cabernet Sauvignon
4% Merlot
4% Cabernet Franc
3% Malbec
2% Petit Verdot

Description
Vibrant and deep ruby in colour. The nose offers enticing aromas of blackberries, black cherries and currants; while the oak adds clove, cedar and toffee notes. The palate is greeted by fine tannin's and finishes round and silky. Balanced and drinkable now, but also an excellent addition to the collector's cellar.

Food Pairings
Beef is the obvious choice to highlight this luscious Cabernet Sauvignon. Enhance recipes with a touch of oregano, thyme or black pepper. Side dishes or sauces featuring mushrooms will make the wine shine

“One of the compelling reasons for the ‘nesting’ of Napa’s AVAs is to prove just how different the Valley’s sub-districts can be, something that this wine from Oak Knoll makes admirably clear. The wine is a dark opaque black, but its soft, respiring resins and calmly ordered fruits alert the drinker from the aromatic profile alone that the wine has nothing monstrous or disproportionate about it. It’s ripe but supple and graceful, with as much juicy acidity as textured tannins: drinkable, accessible and fresh. The Napa hallmark of opulence is there in the succulent grain of the fruit, but in every other respect this is deft, finely judged midweight.” – September 2020

“Medium to medium-dark ruby; attractive, rich, ripe, dark cherry and wild berry fruit aroma with hints of cedar, black olive, cinnamon, and cocoa powder; full body; elegantly styled, red and black fruit flavors with spicy and herbal notes, good acid balance, and pleasing richness in the mouthfeel; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Enjoyable now, though best to give it several more years of bottle aging. Very highly recommended.” – November 2020
